Isuzu Introduces New Class 6 F-Series Models With Cummins B6-7 Diesel Engine

Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc. recently announced the Cummins B6.7 diesel engine will be featured in the new 2022 Isuzu F-Series trucks for the U.S. and Canadian markets. The bold, new Class 6 and 7 trucks are redesigned with customers in mind. The new Isuzu F-Series will give buyers the storied benefits of a low cab forward design coupled with the power and durability of a Cummins engine.

This is the first product to come to market globally from the Isuzu Cummins Powertrain Partnership (ICPP) between Isuzu Motors Limited and Cummins Inc. that was formed in 2019. The trucks will be assembled by Builtmore, a division of the Shyft Group, in Charlotte MI, and will be available at Frank’s Isuzu Truck Center later this year.

The Isuzu F-Series: Larger Cab-to-Axle Space, More Versatility

The 2022 F-Series will now be available in two models – the Class 6 FTR (25,950 – GVWR) and the Class 7 FVR (33,000 – GVWR). The line-up also will include a de-rated Class 6 FVR. A total of eight wheelbases will be available for the FTR and FVR models.

The low cab forward’s larger cab-to-axle (CA) space provides the Isuzu F-Series more cargo capacity versus conventional cab competitors with a comparable wheelbase. This gives customers more versatility with their body application choices to accommodate heavier or more spacious cargo loads.

As with all Isuzu low cab forward trucks, the FTR and FVR will have superb maneuverability, visibility, and comfort. Drivers will appreciate the 50-degree inner wheel cut that gives the Isuzu F-Series class-leading turning diameters between 43.7-ft (152” WB) and 65-ft. (248” WB). Great visibility is made possible by Isuzu’s legendary low cab forward-designed cab and new LED headlamps.

Models:

  • Class 6 FTR: 25,900-lb GVWR, 19,000-lb rear GAWR
  • Class 6 FVR (de-rated): 25,950-lb GVWR, 21,000-lb rear GAWR
  • Class 7 FVR: 33,000-lb GVWR, 21,000-lb rear GAWR

Cummins B6.7 Powertrain

The

B6.7L is the most popular engine ever built by Cummins — and rightfully so, it’s been tested and proven with more than 13 million engines produced over nearly 40-years with billions of miles driven.

The B6.7L is a 6-cylinder diesel engine that outputs 260-hp and 660 lb.-ft. of torque. It is the highest horsepower and torque offering from the Cummins B6.7L. This power and torque combination will easily move heavier payloads through urban environments and on the highway.

“The Cummins B6.7 has a legacy that goes back almost 40 years, so we’re excited to see it in the Isuzu F-Series,” said Rob Neitzke, Executive Director of Cummins On-Highway OEM Business. “It gives Class 6 and 7 truck buyers in the U.S. and Canadian markets new ways to experience the B6.7, with configurations that don’t exist today.”

The Allison Rugged Duty Series Transmission was built for the medium-duty market. It’s proven durability and reliability provide greater uptime with a lower cost of operation.

Other F-Series Chassis Features You Can’t Ignore

All models offer eight wheelbases, ranging from 152 to 248 inches, accommodating bodies up to 30 feet in length. Other features include:

LED lights: LED headlamps and daytime running lights provide enhanced illumination for safer driving and last longer than halogen bulbs for better value.

Enhanced Interior: Dual colored seats with a two-tone grey interior design that creates a comfortable cabin for passengers.

Turning Diameter: The Isuzu F-Series’ 50-degree inner wheel cut provides a class-leading turning diameter that eases driver effort in tight urban environments. This reduces the number of three-point turns in your routes, saves you driving time and makes for safer driving.

Exhaust: The Cummins Single Module After-Treatment has a linear design to keep the frame rails clean. It incorporates the diesel particulate filter (DPF), selective catalyst reduction (SCR), exhaust cooler and electronic exhaust restriction into a compact single-piece unit.

Fuel Tanks: The Isuzu F-Series offers a 50-gallon and a 100-gallon fuel tank. This gives customers the option to increase their range and lessen fuel stops. In short, it helps save time and time is money.

Air Suspension: The Isuzu F-Series trucks are available with air suspension. The standard air compressor outputs 17-CFM to quickly fill the air tanks and fill the suspension’s air bags. This option is popular for customers hauling fragile cargo or those who need to lower the chassis height for loading and unloading.

Wheels/Tires: Isuzu F-Series trucks are equipped with standard 11R22.5 tires on steel wheels. Customers can opt for aluminum wheels and, on the class 6 FTR, have the option for low-pro tires that lower the chassis for special applications like rollback bodies.

Isuzu Cummins Powertrain Partnership (ICPP)

The combination of Isuzu’s outstanding medium-duty truck reputation and Cummins diesel engine expertise in the US and Canada creates a competitive product.  The F-Series trucks will meet customer demand for urban-friendly low cab forward trucks while giving Isuzu dealers and Cummins the opportunity to expand their customer bases.
